Etnachta

street stools
materials: birch & mahagony

The project presents a pair of wooden stools, designed specifically for a fleeting moment in the urban space - a spontaneous conversation between two people, just before each continues on their separate way. The conversation has no clear purpose and is not meant to last, yet often, precisely under the auspices of transience, it unfolds into a deep and unexpected encounter.

The stools are designed to invite a brief but enabling pause. They are comfortable enough for moderate sitting but do not allow for prolonged lounging, thus preserving the transient nature of the situation.

The body of the stools is constructed from sharp-edged wooden planes, topped with a concave and inviting seat. This tension - between the angular, resistant body and the soft, welcoming seat - expresses the temporary and delicate quality of the encounter.

The inspiration comes from the experience of resting in nature - finding a momentary seat carved into a rock, offering the body a short respite among rough stone formations. The bodies of the stools are made from birch plywood, while the seats are crafted from mahogany butcher block.
